Cappella
Cappella wurde bereits 1975 als "The Cappella-Project" gegründet und bestand zu diesem Zeitpunkt ausschließlich aus Songwritern, welche Songs für andere Acts schrieben.
Cappella war die Idee von Gianfranco Bortolotti, welcher 1987 das Media-Team zusammenrief und den Track „Bauhaus/Push The Beat“ kreierte.
Bauhaus feierte große Erfolge in den Clubs in der ganzen Welt - Cappella's erster Durchbruch.
Ein Jahr später wurde mit dem Rapper Ettore Foresti „Helyom Halib“ veröffentlicht. „Helyom Halib“ konnte gute Erfolge in den Charts verbuchen, so z.B. Platz 10 in den UK Top 10. Der Erfolg ging mit “House Of Alkali”, “Be Master In One's Own House”, “House Energy Revenge”, “Get Out of My Case” und “The Rotation Of The House” weiter.
Der nächste Song “Take Me Away” war eine Zusammenarbeit mit Loleatta Holoway und dem Media Records-Team.
Der Name Cappella bezieht sich im Italienischen auf die Fresken der Renaissance und die Kappelen. Er wurde gewählt, um die Idee von „Wiedergeburt“ hervorzuheben.
Wie die Periode der Renaissance mit der Idee der Wiedergeburt von Kultur verbunden ist, so ist Cappellas Musik mit der Idee der Wiedergeburt des Dancefloor verbunden.
Cappellas Erfolg erlebte ein schnelles Wachstum mit dem neuen Rapper Rodney Bishop, der Sängerin Kelly Overett und der Veröffentlichung der Single „U Got 2 Know“ im Jahr 1993, welche sich in den Top 10 in England und Deutschland und in den Top 30 in weiteren europäischen Ländern platzieren konnte. U Got 2 Know war somit der erste europäische Erfolg.
1993 wurde auch „U Got 2 Let The Music“ veröffentlicht. Spätestens mit diesem Track machten sich Cappella endgültig einen Namen in Europa. Der stärkste Song von Cappella ist bis jetzt unangefochten „Move On Baby“ (Platz 1 in England), welcher im Jahre 1994 veröffentlicht wurde. Ebenfalls 1994 wurde das langerwartete Album „U Got 2 Know“ veröffentlicht. Aus diesem Album folgten die Singles „U & Me“, „Move It Up“ (1994) und „Don´t Be Proud“ (1995) - letztere wurde jedoch nur in Holland veröffentlicht.
Das Jahr 1995 brachte einige Veränderungen bei den Frontleuten von Cappella. Kelly Overett verließ die Gruppe und Allison Jordan wurde im Sommer 95 ihre Nachfolgerin.
Als Sänger war zuerst Patric Osborne von der Gruppe „Worlds Apart“ vorgesehen. Es heißt, dass sich Allison und er nicht besonders gut verstanden und so trat Rodney Bishop wieder ins Rampenlicht.
Kellys erster und bis jetzt einziger Solo-Song „Follow Your Heart“ (Interpretenname "Kelly-O") konnte leider keine großen Erfolge verbuchen und wurde nur in England veröffentlicht. Seitdem ist es auch sehr still um sie geworden. Sie soll jedoch wieder der Gruppe SL2 beigetreten sein.
Zudem wird gemunkelt, dass Kelly nur ausgewählt wurde um Cappella ein Gesicht zu geben und noch nie einen Cappella-Track gesungen hat.
Wenn man sich „Follow Your Heart“ oder Live-Auftritte von Cappella anhört, kann man deutlich Unterschiede zu der Stimme erkennen, die auf den CDs zu hören ist und die zu einer Sängerin namens Salee gehören soll. Vielleicht war dies auch der Grund, dass Kelly Cappella verließ.
Allisons Stimme hörte man dann zum ersten mal bei „Tell Me The Way“ (1995). Auch bei ihr gab es Gerüchte um ihre Stimme, denn sie hört sich auf fast jedem Track anders an und mal wieder mal wurde gemunkelt, dass eine andere Sängerin Cappella ihre Stimme lieh, Ann Marie Smith von den 49ers. Das Allison singen kann, hört man auf Ihrer Solo-Single „The Boy From New York City“ (1992).
Im Januar '96 folgte dann der zweite Track mit Allison als Sängerin, „I Need Your Love“. Im gleichen Jahr wurde dann auch Cappellas Langersehntes zweites Album veröffentlicht: „War In Heaven“ konnte leider nicht den selben Erfolg wie sein Vorgänger „U Got 2 Know“ verbuchen. Wenn man sich die Songtexte durchliest, vermittelt es den Eindruck, dass das Album gar nicht richtig fertig gestellt wurde. Aus „War In Heaven“ wurden die Songs „Turn It Up And Down“ (1996) und “Do You Run Away Now” (1997, nur in Skandinavien) ausgekoppelt.
1997 wurde es dann wieder etwas stiller um Cappella, bis „Be My Baby“ auf den Markt kam. Mit „Be My Baby“ versuchten Cappella einen anderen Musikstil, Future Trance, ohne Raps von Rodney.
Auf dem Cover war von ihm auch nichts mehr zu sehen und Gerüchte von seinem Austritt machten die Runde. Im November folgte dann „U Tore My World Apart“.
Dieses mal war auch wieder eine männliche Stimme zu hören, jedoch hieß es, dass die Rap-Parts von T. Pagani übernommen wurden und Rodney Cappella wirklich verlassen hatte. Cappella's drittes Album wurde 1998 jedoch einzig in Japan veröffentlicht. Es enthält 12 verschiedene Songs, darunter auch langsamere Nummern, und wurde schlicht nur „Cappella“ genannt. Aus diesem Album sollen „ Can U Feel It Babe“, „Throwin´Away” und “Walkin´Away” in Japan als Singles ausgekoppelt worden sein. „People Of Love“ soll im Juni 1998 als Limited Edition veröffentlicht worden sein. Im November folgte ein Remix von „U Got 2 Let The Music“. Auf der Maxi auch enthalten: „Leave It“, ein noch nie veröffentlichter Track. Ende 1998 wurde „U R The Power Of Love“ in Deutschland veröffentlicht.
Cappella konnten seit 1995 nicht mehr an ihre alten Erfolge anknüpfen. Und 1999 bestätigte Gianfranco Bortolotti das aus von Cappella.
Er würde sich wieder um Cappella kümmern, wenn er Zeit für das Projekt findet, war zu lesen. Im Oktober 2000 kamen Gerüchte einer Rückkehr von Cappella hoch. Bei Media Records Italien war folgendes zu lesen: „The Return Of The Media Star: From Media Recording Studios is ready a new bumper sound, emblematic for the history of dance music: the new Cappella single. The title is unknown but the style is very happy energy massive. Stay in tune for other Cappella news." Diese Meldung wurde aber wieder sehr schnell zurückgenommen.
Im Sommer 2002 dann wirklich ein Comebackversuch. Es wurde ein Remix von „U Got 2 Know“ als Vinly veröffentlicht. Die CD-Veröffentlichung erfolgte Anfang Oktober. Zwei Jahre später wurde der neue Song "Angel" released. In diesem Song wurden alte Rap-Parts von "M.C. Fixx it" integriert. Leider konnte "Angel" nicht an die großen Erfolge anknüpfen. Eine Platzierung in den Verkaufscharts wurde zudem nicht erreicht. Im selben Jahr, am 13.12.2004 erschien wieder ein Remix: Und welcher Song könnte wieder an alte Erfolge am ehesten anknüpfen? Genau: U Got 2 Let The Music.
Und das, obwohl im Sommer bereits von "S.W.A.T feat. Real" eine Coverversion dieses Tracks veröffentlicht wurde.
Nach der Neuauflage des 1996er-Albums "War In Heaven", welches im Juni 2005 VÖ wurde, folgt nur knapp zwei Monate später das nächste Album von Cappella.
Dieses Mal handelt es sich um ein Best Of mit den uns bekannten Songs. Zudem wurde eine Best Of-DVD veröffentlicht.
